Portable Appliance Testing – PAT
What Is Portable Appliance Testing?
Portable Appliance Testing is more commonly known as PAT Testing. This is the method in which electrical equipment is inspected and tested to ensure they are in a safe condition.

"It’s a common misconception, and most PAT Testing companies will tell you, that all electrical equipment must be tested by a qualified electrician annually...This is not the case!"
Why Should You PAT Test?
There are many statutory regulations which place responsibility on Employers, Landlords, Construction Site Managers and Institutions etc. Quite simply the regulations state that you must provide a safe environment for persons that may use electrical equipment such as the public, employees or tenants.
How often should I PAT Test?
It’s a common misconception, and most PAT Testing companies will tell you, that all electrical equipment must be tested by a qualified electrician annually, that PAT testing MUST be carried out once a year! But this is not the case! If you have already had PAT Testing carried out check the labels – Is the re-test date a year on? Obviously it’s in the interest of some companies that you come back year on year but this is not always necessary.
We at inspect believe in being honest with our customers. According to the IEE code of practice for In-Service Inspection & Testing of Electrical Equipment - Depending on your circumstances and as long the equipment is being visually monitored, after the initial inspection some equipment may never need testing again. If you have a large office think how much that could save your company? It is worth noting that it is best to contact your insurance company as they may insist on more regular testing.
What does it cost?
Portable Appliance Testing is priced depending on the quantity of appliances that need testing. Please feel free to contact us for a quote.
